This accessibility statement applies to www.jacobstowvillage.co.uk.
This website is run by Jacobstow Parish Council and the Jacobstow Journal. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- the Jacobstow Journal PDFs are not fully accessible
- the photo gallery could be improved for keyboard users

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Jacobstow Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Although the photo gallery can be controlled with a keyboard, it could be improved for keyboard users. Currently focus is not restricted to the light box window making it hard to see which element has focus. Possible fixes are being investigated.
Disproportionate burden
Some PDFs on our website, such the four linked on the Parish Council page, are scanned images or have extremely complex layouts. This means that it is not practical to make accessible versions.
Currently, it is not practical to create a fully accessible version of the Jacobstow Journal.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix older agenda and minutes.
Where possible, new content will be published as accessible web pages, rather than PDFs or Word documents.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
All new content is added in an accessible format where possible. An accessibility audit is completed every year. This includes manually testing of a selection of pages and using an automated scanner across all pages.
